North Port Fire Chief Resigns After DUI Arrest
Posted in Charlotte County DUI by adminDavid Quaderer will resign from his position of North Port deputy fire chief, following his DUI arrest early Friday.
The 47-year-old announced his resignation in a two-sentence letter to Chief William Taaffe, citing “recent events” as the reason for his departure.
Quaderer, the deputy chief of administration for North Port Fire Rescue, was stopped along Interstate 75 in Charlotte County for reportedly driving drunk in a department-issued vehicle.
North Port dispatchers received a call at 1:33 a.m. regarding a Ford Expedition with fire department insignia swerving across the southbound lanes of I-75 near the Toledo Blade Boulevard exit.
A city police cruiser responded and spotted the vehicle nine miles down the road at the Kings Highway exit in Charlotte County.
Quaderer, who had been with North Port Fire Rescue since 2006, stopped at Taco Bell and urinated in the parking lot, according to a Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
He got back onto I-75 and drove several miles before his vehicle was stopped by the officer, who wanted to find out whether the city-owned SUV had been stolen, the report said.
The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside Quaderer’s vehicle as Quaderer handed over his driver’s license and fire department identification, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
According to the report, Quaderer said he was returning from a seminar in Bradenton and headed to North Port. His eyes were reportedly blood shot and his words were slurred.
Quaderer admitted to stopping at several places along the way, but would not specify.
