Broward County Man Faces DUI Manslaughter, Other Charges
Posted in Broward County DUI, DUI Manslaughter, Miramar DUI by adminA driver accused of hitting and killing a Miramar man seven months ago while drunk was arrested Wednesday at his mother’s home in Pompano Beach, authorities said.
The suspect, 39, of Pembroke Pines faces six DUI-related charges, including two counts of DUI manslaughter, the Florida Highway Patrol said. He faces a 40 years-life jail sentence upon conviction.
The accident happened around 2 a.m. on the Florida’s Turnpike extension near University Drive in Miramar, authorities said. The suspect, had a revoked Florida driver’s license when he got behind the wheel of a 2008 BMW on Aug. 18 and hit a 2004 Mazda driven. He was driving northbound and rear-ended the victim ,who died at the scene, causing both cars to slam into a guardrail, FHP said. His BAC was nearly four times the legal limit according to FHP Lt. Reyes.
Four months before the accident, the suspect was convicted of two counts of DUI property damage for an accident in the Florida Keys, state records show. His license was revoked for 10 years. In 2004, he was convicted of drunken driving in Broward County. This time, as state above, he faces 2 counts of DUI manslaughter and driving without a license.
