Florida DUI Suspect Hits Deputy, Charges Unclear
Posted in Florida DUI News by adminA 28-year-old man suspected of DUI was injured Friday morning after crashing into a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy squad car during a pursuit.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the suspect, of Clermont, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center after the collision caused him to fall off his 2008 Suzuki and slide about 67 feet.
It wasn’t clear what he would be charged with.
Deputy John Graham, 34, sustained minor injuries and back pain and also was taken to a hospital, but was treated and released, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. John Herrell said deputies had received a call that a man leaving the Jesse Black Saloon in Leesburg was intoxicated.
It’s not clear at what point did law enforcement officers catch up or spot t. he suspect. According to the FHP report, however, the suspect was attempting to elude law enforcement officers on his motorcycle as he sped north on U.S. Highway 27 near County Road 561, in the Minneola area, about 2:30 a.m.
Graham’s marked 2006 Chevy Impala was responding to the call and traveling on the same highway in the same direction. The FHP reports adds the motorcycle was traveling so fast, Graham didn’t see it when he attempted to make a U-turn in his squad car into the median.
The front of motorcycle collided with the rear of squad car — causing the bike to hit the ground and the suspect to fall off and slide about 67 feet, before coming to a stop in the median. Updates on this along with other Florida DUI News are available.
